May 19, 2020·A last comparison, nobody uses coolant on their vertical metal cutting bandsaws, and no one complains about blade life or cutting speed. Therefore I don't use coolant on my horiz bandsaw. If I use 10 or 20 more blades in my lifetime, it saves all that cleaning up, mixing and replacing coolant, and dealing with rust issues.

Horizontal Band Saw, Coolant or no?

Apr 29, 2007·The oil makes the chip stick to the blade, then drag them back into the cut. Coolant is not as sticky chips seems to fall off the blade better. Also flood coolant will wash off the chips. I was always taught to use coolant, unless your are cutting high carbon steel.
